Sarah Kurth ’28 (pictured above at the Rodin Museum in Philadelphia) is pursuing a major in History of Art and a minor in Spanish. Below, she reflects on her academic experience at ɫɫÑо¿Ëù.
During my college search, I was really drawn to the importance of interdisciplinary learning.
I love connecting my interests across courses and fields of study and felt that ɫɫÑо¿Ëù shared that value. Entering ɫɫÑо¿Ëù, I was interested in History of Art and Spanish, and my introductory classes in both departments solidified them as my fields of study. Both departments are incredibly supportive and have allowed me to pursue a variety of opportunities and in and out of the classroom. ɫɫÑо¿Ëù's requirements encouraged me to expand on my interests outside of my double-major, for example, exploring archiving in my Emily Balch seminar (E-Sem) and Linguistics for my Scientific Investigation requirement.
I've been researching in the Spanish department under Katherine Phipps creating transcripts of Spanish Inquisition trial documents.
This has resulted in a as well as an ongoing research project, and I hope to integrate the work into my senior thesis. This year I became a Spanish TA for the Beginner Spanish class, and I've loved getting to develop exercises for my students that facilitate conversational skills and confidence.
I've found that ɫɫÑо¿Ëù's student body is uninterested in competition, instead values interdisciplinary collaboration and sharing a genuine love for academia.
